On this tour you will find that Leipzig is a true musical cultural heritage with an unparalleled density of famous names associated with the city, from Wagner, Bach, Mendelssohn to Schumann. The first stop of the 2-hours guided walking tour will be St Thomas. The church is connected to several well-known composers such as R. Wagner, F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, as well as W.A. Mozart, who played the organ here. J.S.Bach was the music director of St Thomas and St Nicholas. You will see the statue of Bach in the St Thomas courtyard and his grave beneath the floor of the choir sanctuary of the church. Then you will walk through the Old Town’s iconic market square towards St Nicholas, where the premiere of Bach’s St John Passion took place.
Follow your Private Guide to hear all the fascinating facts about Leipzig’s connection to music. You will see the buildings of the world-renowned Leipzig Opera and the Geandhaus zu Leipzig. What you should know
- Please check your email the day before the tour to receive important information.
- Due to Sunday and holiday masses as well as concerts and performances which may take place in St Thomas Church, sometimes the sightseeing tour might be limited or will require additional fee (2 eur per person) if you want to attend in concert.
- On December 24 and 31, the Mendelssohn House has limited opening hours from 10 AM to 3 PM, so we advise to book a tour with start time which covers these hours.
