The Fryderyk Chopin Museum is located in Warsaw, Poland. It is the largest Chopin centre in the world!
The mission of this museum is to cultivate the memory of Chopin. He was a great composer and this museum is trying to teach about him, his life as well as work.
In 1999, part of the museum’s collection was registered in the UNESCO Memory of the World list.
The Collection
The Fryderyk Chopin Museum is located on four floors of Ostrogski Castle. It consists of the largest collection of Chopiniana in the world. You will see more than 7500 items there!
For example, you will be able to see his piano, personal diaries, gold watch as well as portraits. Moreover, you will hear music and soundscapes.
At Chopin’s Birthplace, you will see family souvenirs as well as the first editions of compositions by the little Chopin.
The History
Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw established the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in 1930. Then, they started to collect items for that purpose.
For example, Ludwika Ciechomska, granddaughter of Chopin’s sister sold thirteen very valuable manuscripts.
Since 1953, the Fryderyk Chopin Institute was housed in the Ostrogski Palace.
In 2010, the museum was renewed. It was the date of 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth. Since that time, this museum is one of the most modern museums in Poland.
