Full description

Discover Jewish history, culture, traditions and personalities on a guided tour of Jewish heritage sites in Frankfurt. On this themed tour you will learn about the life of Anne Frank before her family had immigrated to the Netherlands. Hear the authentic story of what was life like for Frankfurt’s Jewish community during WWII.

The first stop of the 2-hours walking tour will be the Former Synagogue at Friedberger Anlage. The structure of the Nazi-built above-ground bunker serves as a tribute to the former synagogue built in 1907 and destroyed by National Socialist during the so-called “Night of Broken Glass.” You will then walk through the former “Jews’ Lane” (The Frankfurter Judengasse), which was one of the earliest and largest Jewish ghettos in Europe.

Located between the Old Jewish Cemetery and the Museum Judengasse is the Börneplatz Memorial. The memorial is a symbolic grave that commemorates some 11,000 deported and murdered Frankfurter Jews. Among these names you will notice Anne Frank, who was born in Frankfurt. Your Private Guide will tell you the story of the Frank family’s immigration to the Netherlands in an attempt to escape the Nazi regime.

You will walk past the memorial to German democracy – St Paul’s Church to the last stop at the Am Hauptbahnhof 4, opposite the Main Station. This is a former residence of Oskar Schindler, the hero of Steven Spielberg’s award-winning film, “Schindler’s List”. Throughout the tour you will discover the history of Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
