Full description

As a city that Adolf Hitler considered to be his hometown, Linz holds a special place in the Second World War memory. On this tour, you will see some of the places connected to German fuhrer’s childhood and learn about the development of WWII. Immerse yourself in fascinating war history!

For the 2-hours walking tour you will meet with your Private Guide at Linz’s main square, where you will see landmarks such as Old Town Hall, Trinity Column and Neptune Fountain. Your History Expert Guide will provide all the interesting facts about Hitler’s personal life and Linz’s connection to the Nazi regime, e.g. to one of the major organizers of the Holocaust, Adolf Eichmann.

You will make a stop by the Main Customs Office, Hauptzollamt, mentioned in Mein Kampf as the place where 13-years-old Adolf Hitler became determined that he would not become a provincial bureaucrat. You will also see the Old Cathedral, where he received the sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic Church and walk through the Schmidtoreck district, where he used to hang out in his youth. The tour will continue past the charming Landhaus government building and end at the monolithic New Cathedral.

Choose the 3-hours option to visit the Limoni tunnels. These former wine and beer cellars were developed into air-raid protection shelters during the course of WWII. You will access parts of the secret tunnels system to discover the authentic shelters built by the prisoners of Mauthausen concentration camp. The tunnels housed the Gauleiter’s command post and underground command centres of the city administration and the police.

You will experience the genuine history of WWII events inside the secret shelter. The guide will provide commentary on the development of WWI and WWII, the establishment of the National Socialist government, the rise of the anti-Jewish ideology, food shortages, repeated bombings and “anti-war movements.”

Includes
